4 Essential Tips for Pressing DTF Transfers

Struggling with peeling, dull prints, or transfers that crack after a few washes? You’re not alone. Pressing DTF transfers takes precision — and a few proven techniques. Whether you're just getting started or want more consistent results, these four tips will help you get pro-level outcomes on every press.
1. Pre-Press the Garment
Remove moisture and flatten wrinkles.
Moisture in the fabric is one of the biggest causes of bad adhesion. Pre-press your shirt for 5–10 seconds before applying the transfer. This also helps create a smooth, even base for better results.
2. Dial in Your Settings
Time. Temperature. Pressure.
Standard settings are 315°F for 12–15 seconds, medium to firm pressure. But not every shirt is the same — test your combo to lock in what works for your blanks.
3. Let It Cool Down (Seriously)
Don’t peel too early.
Cold peel means cold. If you peel while it’s still warm, you risk lifting parts of the print. Let the transfer cool completely, then peel slow and steady.
4. Seal It with a Final Press
Press again with parchment paper.
After peeling, cover the print with parchment paper or a finishing sheet and press again for 12–15 seconds. This final step helps bond the ink to the fibers and boosts wash durability.

Perfect presses don’t just happen — they’re built on consistency and good habits. Keep testing, take notes, and dial in your setup. Want more tips like these? Subscribe to The Press Report or explore our Pressing Instructions page.
